Windows, UNIX & Database Monitoring Minimize

The concept of creating an agent that is lightweight sounds simple enough. The problem for the major vendors is that they are tied to their heavy weight architectures and a heavy reliance on services.

When you then learn that the costs are no different, the light weight agent ends up moving into a higher weight division.

eMite's Windows agent is an advanced lightweight monitoring agent for many reasons.

  • eMite’s footprint on your system is tiny
  • eMite installs in a fraction of time compared to the heavy weight’s
  • eMite’s overall cost of ownership is a fraction of the heavy weight’s.

What eMite for Windows and UNIX Provides

Easy Configuration eMite is configured centrally from its easy to use console. Multiple configurations can be deployed to any server from a single location.

Choice of Options. Depending on your environment, eMite can be installed on a single or multiple servers. Some of our customers are able to monitor hundreds of servers from just a few agents.

Easy to Administer. Once you install your agents, they continually check for updates, changing their measurements as required, with no manual changes required by administrators.

Local or Remote. eMite is unique in that agents can monitor remote servers with no holes required in your network. If you need the LAN servers monitored, eMite will communicate across TCP with low overheads.

Automation Everywhere. As you add more servers to your network, eMite applies one of its templates and within minutes you have a new server on your console.

Architecture

Multiple Collection Types. eMite will collect data from standard performance counters as well as filter log files and run external commands.

Data Collection. Data collected is controlled on the monitored server. Data is saved for instances of lost connectivity.

Communication. By using email and TCP as communication standards, eMite is able to communicate at the remote and local level. Remote server regularly forward measurements via encrypted messages.

Notification is very powerful in eMite. Users are able to receive pre-defined alerts via SMS and email.

Self Service Reports. Managers of eMite are able to quickly determine root causes of outages and generate reports to determine long term trends.

Metrics Gathered

Operating System. eMite gathers operating system performance metrics for monitored Windows and UNIX Servers. Customers can choose to use a standard base set of metrics, or choose to measure any number

Database Metrics. Oracle, and SQL Server metrics are configured to be monitored out of the box. Other database instance such as DB2, Sybase, etc, are also measured.

Third Party Data. eMite has the ability to manage data from third party solutions as well as filter log files. This adds significant value in reducing the need for installing more than one agent on monitored Servers.
